Yedigöller in November: Is the Road Open? (2026)
The season's first snow fell on Yedigöller on 16 October this year; two days later the road closed for 3 hours and only cars on winter tyres were let through. If you are thinking of visiting in November, here is which road to use, in what conditions and whom to check with, backed by dated sources.
As of 25 October 2026 the Bolu–Yedigöller road is open; however, on 18 October the gendarmerie closed it for about 3 hours because of 15 cm of snow and ice, and when it reopened only vehicles on winter tyres were allowed through. Expect short closures like this in November; in previous years the road was also closed by snow on 22 November 2024. Winter tyres are compulsory for intercity commercial vehicles from 15 November to 15 April and recommended for private cars; on this mountain road, treat them as essential. Before setting off, call the Bolu Branch Directorate of National Parks (0374 215 52 81).
Is the Yedigöller road open?
As of 25 October 2026 the Bolu–Yedigöller road is open, but when it snows it can close within hours. The most recent closure was on 18 October 2026: on the Bolu side, the gendarmerie (jandarma, Türkiye's rural police force) stopped traffic because of 15 cm of snow and ice, crews from the General Directorate of Highways (Karayolları) worked for about 3 hours, and when the road reopened only vehicles on winter tyres were allowed through (DHA, 18 October 2026).
Yedigöller National Park (Yedigöller means "Seven Lakes") is a protected area of seven lakes in a forested valley in northern Bolu, between Bolu city centre and Mengen. The lakes sit on two separate levels at an average altitude of about 780 metres; this guide has nothing to do with the lakes of the same name in İspir, Erzurum.

| Winter tyres | Compulsory for commercial vehicles 15 November–15 April, recommended for private cars; the gendarmerie can require them when there is snow |

What happened in autumn 2026?
Winter came early this year: the first snow fell on 16 October and two days later the road closed briefly. In date order:
- 16 October 2026: İHA (İhlas News Agency) reported heavy, wet snow, the season's first, falling on the higher sections of the Yedigöller road in the morning (İHA). On the same day about 5 cm of snow was measured on the Kartalkaya ski slopes.
- 18 October 2026: The snow reached 15 cm and the road iced over. Anadolu Agency gave the checkpoint as the Yukarı Yayla area of Yeniköy, a village in Bolu's central district; the gendarmerie turned holidaymakers back, and about 3 hours later the road reopened with a winter-tyre requirement (DHA).
This mid-October snow is a useful warning for November: the problem is usually not a closure lasting days, but a few hours' closure on the same day plus a tyre check. Visitors arriving on summer tyres may have to turn back even while the road is open.
What is the difference between the two roads to Yedigöller?
The road on the Bolu side climbs to about 1,700 metres, while the highest point on the Mengen–Yazıcık route is about 810 metres; snow closes the Bolu side first. We calculated these altitudes ourselves using route and open elevation data, so read them as approximate.
| Bolu–Yedigöller road | Yeniçağa–Mengen–Yazıcık road | |
|---|---|---|
| Highest point | About 1,700 m | About 810 m |
| Bolu centre to the park | About 42–44 km | Longer; via Mengen |
| In winter | Closes in snow and ice | Used as the winter route |
| Known in 2026 | Closed for 3 hours on 18 October | Closed by a landslide in June |
| Best for | Visitors from Bolu centre, when there is no snow | Those staying in Mengen; winter months |
Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism describes the winter arrangement in the same way:
"The Bolu – Yedigoller route is closed during winter, which means transport is only available via the Yenicaga – Mengen – Yazicik road."
— T.C. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı, Bolu - Yedigöller Milli Parkı
An important note on the Mengen side: on 19 June 2026, Bolu Gündem reported a landslide on a bend of the Mengen road about 1 km before the park entrance, closing the road completely; on 26 June it was reported that the Devrek–Yazıcık road was still closed (Bolu Gündem, Pusula). We could not find any published report of this route reopening. If you plan to use the Mengen–Yazıcık route, be sure to confirm its current status by phone.
How often does the Yedigöller road close in November?
Closures mostly happen in the second half of November and in December–January; snow in October and early November usually means a closure of a few hours. Closure history, with sources:
| Date | What happened? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 22 November 2024 | Closed by order of the governorship because of the risk of snow and ice; access via Mengen | AA |
| 31 December 2025 | Temporarily closed because of ice | İşçi Haber |
| 1 January 2026 | DKMP (the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks) advised visitors to use the Mengen route only | Bolu Gündem |
| 24 April 2026 | The Bolu road reopened after its winter closure | Özgür Bolu |
| 18 October 2026 | 15 cm of snow; closed for about 3 hours, reopened with a winter-tyre requirement | DHA |
We found no record of a closure in November 2025. This table suggests it is reasonable to expect a similar pattern in winter 2026–2027: from the second half of November the Bolu side closes more often, and winter arrangements apply from December until the end of April.
What is the weather like at Yedigöller in November?
In November, daytime temperatures average around 13 °C and nights around 2 °C; it rains on more than a third of the days. According to data from the Bolu station of the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) for 1929–2025, the average high in November is 13.3 °C, the average low 2.1 °C, the average number of rainy days 11.8 and monthly precipitation 46.2 mm; the same station has even recorded −24.8 °C in November (MGM). These figures are for the city centre; the higher sections of the park road are colder.
| November period | Forest | Road risk | Our advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–15 November | Last colours, leaves falling | Morning ice, occasional snow | Weekdays, enter before 10:00 |
| 16–22 November (mid-term break) | Mostly bare, foggy | Higher chance of closure | Choose weekdays; winter tyres essential |
| 23–30 November | Wintry look, possibly the first lasting snow | Bolu side may close | Always call before you go |
The days get shorter too: on 15 November the sun sets in Bolu at about 17:36. To avoid driving the forest road in the dark on icy ground, leave the park by 15:30 at the latest. For a week-by-week colour calendar, see our Yedigöller leaf-fall calendar 2026, and for a monthly climate table, see Mengen and Yedigöller weather.
Are winter tyres compulsory?
Winter tyres are compulsory from 15 November to 15 April for vehicles carrying passengers and goods between cities; for private cars they are officially recommended, but on snowy days they are effectively essential on the Yedigöller road. The amendment in the Official Gazette (Resmî Gazete) of 4 October 2025 extended the compulsory period from the old 1 December–1 April window to 15 November–15 April. In its announcement, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said this about private vehicles:
"Hususi araç sahiplerinin de kış lastiği takmasını tavsiye ediyoruz."
(English: "We also recommend that owners of private vehicles fit winter tyres.")
According to the same announcement, governorships can extend this period by one month before and after within their provincial boundaries. Under Law No. 7574, which came into force on 27 February 2026, operators of commercial vehicles who fail to comply with the winter-tyre requirement face a fine of 6,000 TL (Resmî Gazete).
In practice the rule is simple: as on 18 October, if there is snow and ice on the road, the gendarmerie can turn back a car on summer tyres. If you are going to Yedigöller in November, fit winter tyres to your private car as well and put snow chains in the boot.
Should you visit Yedigöller in November?
Go in the first half of November if you want to see colour, and in the second half for a quiet forest and the first snow; either way, plan for daylight and a weekday. November is the month when the park calms down after the October crowds; however, visitor numbers rise again over the weekends of the 14–22 November school mid-term break (ara tatil). During the November 2025 mid-term break, Anadolu Agency reported that the campsites were completely full and long queues of cars formed at the entrances (AA, 9 November 2025). For mid-term break plans, see our November mid-term break 2026 guide.
Worth going: on a weekday, with a clear forecast, winter tyres on your car and your return planned for 15:30.
Worth postponing: if there is a snow warning, if you would be driving on summer tyres, or if you can only go on a weekend afternoon.

Where to stay for Yedigöller in November?
In November, choose accommodation close to the park, with good heating and an early breakfast; that way you spend the safest hours on the road, in other words daylight, at the park.
Nesilce Tatil Köyü is a resort set in the forest in Mengen, 48 km from Yedigöller. It has 25 units: two-storey bungalows for 4–6 people, standard bungalows for 2–3 people and hotel rooms for 2. A Turkish village breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi are included; there is no swimming pool or jacuzzi. A typical November plan: arrive and spend the evening at the resort, set off for the park the next morning after an early breakfast, and head back in the afternoon. See our bungalows in Bolu page for the rooms, and where to stay for Yedigöller for choosing an area.
How we prepared this guide
We took the road incidents from dated reports by Anadolu Agency, İHA and DHA, the climate data from MGM, and the winter-tyre rules from the Official Gazette and the Ministry of Transport. The altitudes of the two routes are an approximate calculation we made using open route and elevation data. We found that a report appearing on some sites with a 2026 date, saying "the Bolu–Yedigöller road is closed for works until the end of October", was in fact a governorship announcement from 2015, and we did not use it. We could not verify from an official source the reopening date of the Mengen–Yazıcık road after the landslide, the 2026 opening hours or the current status of the appointment system. If there is a new closure or reopening, we will update this page.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Yedigöller road open right now?
According to the latest published news as of 25 October 2026, the Bolu–Yedigöller road is open. On 18 October 2026 it closed for about 3 hours because of snow and ice, and when it reopened only vehicles on winter tyres were allowed through. Conditions in November can change within a single day, so call the Bolu Branch Directorate of National Parks (0374 215 52 81) before you go.
Is it worth visiting Yedigöller in November?
Yes. In the first half of November you can still see autumn colours (the peak usually runs from mid-October to 15 November); in the second half the forest is bare, and fog and the first snow arrive. Go in daylight, fit winter tyres and head back at least an hour before sunset (around 17:36 on 15 November).
Are winter tyres compulsory for Yedigöller?
Under the amendment published in the Official Gazette (Resmî Gazete) on 4 October 2025, winter tyres are compulsory every year from 15 November to 15 April for vehicles carrying passengers and goods between cities; the Ministry of Transport recommends them for private cars. However, when there is snow and ice on the road, the gendarmerie can make passage conditional on winter tyres: that is exactly what happened on the Yedigöller road on 18 October 2026.
How do you reach Yedigöller if the Bolu side is closed?
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Bolu–Yedigöller road is closed in winter and access is via the Yeniçağa–Mengen–Yazıcık road. The highest point on that route is about 810 metres, compared with about 1,700 metres on the Bolu side, which is why snow closes the Bolu side first. The Mengen side was closed by a landslide in June 2026, so check the current status of that route separately too.
Where can I find out the status of the Yedigöller road?
Use the Bolu Branch Directorate of National Parks (0374 215 52 81) for the park itself and entry; the Highways Closed Road Enquiry (Karayolları Trafiğe Kapalı Yol Sorgulama) service on e-Devlet, the government's online portal, for state roads; and the Bolu Provincial Gendarmerie Command and local news for sudden closures. For facilities and camping reservations inside the park, the operator Habitat Mesire Yerleri can be reached on 0850 241 15 81.
Is Yedigöller in Bolu the same as Yedigöller in Erzurum?
No. The Yedigöller in this guide is Yedigöller National Park in northern Bolu, between Mengen and Bolu city centre. Yedigöller in İspir, Erzurum, is a separate area of high mountain lakes with completely different winter access conditions.
