Where to Stay Near Yedigöller in 2026: Area by Area

    23 May 2026· 10 min read·Nesilce Editor

The first decision before a trip to Yedigöller is not the hotel but the area. We compare staying inside the park, on the Mengen side and in Bolu city centre by distance, winter road and who each suits.

    In brief

There are three realistic areas to stay for Yedigöller: the few bungalows and the designated tent area inside the park, the Mengen–Yazıcık side, and Bolu city centre, about 42–45 km from the park. Because the park road on the Bolu side can close in winter, the Mengen side is the most practical base from mid-November to March; in summer and autumn the choice depends on how early you want to be in the park and what you want from your evenings.

Where should you stay near Yedigöller?

There are three realistic places to stay for Yedigöller National Park (the "Seven Lakes"): the handful of bungalows and campsites inside the park, the Mengen–Yazıcık side (including the small town of Mengen) and Bolu city centre. From April to mid-November all three work; from mid-November to March, however, the park road on the Bolu side can close because of snow and ice, which makes the Mengen side the most practical base.

This guide answers "which area?" rather than "which hotel?": the approximate road distance from each area to the park, winter access, the range of accommodation and who each area suits. We cover the hotel-or-bungalow decision in our hotel or bungalow guide, and how to check a specific property before you book in our Yedigöller hotel selection criteria.

Can you stay inside the park?

Yes, but on a small scale and in only two forms: bungalows and tents. According to the Yedigöller National Park page of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's 9th Regional Directorate, the 1,623-hectare park, declared a national park on 29 April 1965, offers stays in bungalows owned by the General Directorate, and visitors can also stay in tents. The number of bungalows varies by source: Habertürk's Yedigöller guide gives 18 units with 72 beds in total, while current booking listings mention 21 houses.

Caravan stays, however, are banned. According to a DHA report of 11 March 2025, a general order by the Bolu Governorate on protected areas prohibits staying overnight in a caravan inside the national park, and visitors arriving by caravan are not admitted even for a day visit. If you are travelling by caravan, plan to stay outside the park. Tents may only be pitched in the designated camping area.

The real advantage of staying inside the park is time: you don't have to drive anywhere to catch the morning mist and reflections on the lakes. In return, bear in mind:

    • Capacity is small. Autumn weekends need booking well ahead.
    • Meals work differently. According to booking listings, the houses have a kitchen area and breakfast is not included; check current terms with the operator.
    • Little to do in the evening. For a supermarket, pharmacy or fuel you have to drive down to Bolu or Mengen.
    • Only one way in during winter. When the Bolu road closes, the park can only be reached from the Mengen–Yazıcık side.

If you are thinking of tent camping, see our guide camping or a bungalow at Yedigöller for current fees, night-time temperatures, kit and campsite rules.

The Mengen–Yazıcık side: the approach that stays open in winter

Besides the road up from Bolu, there is a second approach: from Mengen you head towards Zonguldak and enter the park via the village of Yazıcık, which belongs to Devrek district. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism states that the Bolu–Yedigöller road is closed in winter and that during this period the park can only be reached via the Yeniçağa–Mengen–Yazıcık road.

This route is not just a winter alternative:

    • Coming from Ankara, you leave the motorway at Gerede or Yeniçağa and cross to Mengen, reaching the park without going through Bolu city traffic at all.
    • Yazıcık is one of the closest settlements to the park (about 25–30 km according to mapping services), but the village itself has very little accommodation.
    • Rather than big hotels, the villages along this route mostly offer bungalow resorts and small properties, which suit travellers looking for a quiet stay in nature with breakfast included.

Points to watch: options for dinner and shopping are not as wide as in the city, so ask in advance whether your accommodation serves meals. Driving forest roads after dark is tiring, so plan to arrive in daylight.

    Staying in Mengen town

Mengen is a small district in the north-east of Bolu province, known as Türkiye's "land of chefs" for its long cooking tradition. From the town centre to the park is roughly 50–55 km by road according to mapping services; the last stretch is a winding road through the forest, so the drive takes longer than the distance suggests.

The upside of the town is its small-town amenities: restaurants, a bakery, a pharmacy and fuel all in one place. The downside is that there is far less accommodation than in Bolu city centre, so ask early for autumn and Eid (Bayram) holiday dates. You can also eat in town in the evening and spend the night at a quieter village property; distances between Mengen town and the villages along the route are short.

Staying in Bolu city centre and driving to Yedigöller

Bolu city centre has the shortest road link to Yedigöller and the widest choice of accommodation in the province. Depending on the source, the park lies 42–45 km north of Bolu. According to a 2015 report in Hürriyet, after the 24 km gravel section of this road was asphalted, the journey from Bolu to the park dropped from 1.5–2 hours to 40–50 minutes; it is still a narrow, steep forest road today.

    • Who it suits: Travellers who want city-hotel comfort, plenty of restaurants in the evening, and a trip that combines Yedigöller with Gölcük or Abant.
    • The winter risk: This road is closed in snow and ice. According to Anadolu Agency, it was closed on 22 November 2024 by decision of the Bolu Governorate, with access to the park announced via Mengen; on 31 December 2025 the Bolu Branch of the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks also closed it temporarily because of ice. When the road is closed, driving from Bolu to the park via Mengen means roughly 120 km according to mapping services, almost three times the distance.

Abant, Gölcük, Seben and other options

These areas are lovely bases in their own right, but they are a long way from Yedigöller. Approximate figures from mapping services:

    • Around Lake Abant: About 80 km to the park, a drive of more than 1.5 hours. For those who want to stay by the lake and visit Yedigöller as a day trip; details in our Lake Abant travel guide.
    • Gölcük Nature Park: South of Bolu city centre, about 55 km from the park. A natural second stop if you are based in Bolu; see our Gölcük travel guide.
    • Seben and Mudurnu: In the south-west of the province, about 95–100 km and around two hours from the park. Not a base for Yedigöller, but part of a separate trip.
    • Yeniçağa and Gerede: On the motorway, about 75–95 km from the park. More a place to break the journey than a base.

Bungalow, hotel, guesthouse or camping: what you'll find where

Four types of accommodation come up together when you search for Yedigöller, but not every type exists in every area:

TypeWhere you'll find itStrengthsWatch out for
BungalowInside the park, the Mengen side, around AbantPrivate entrance, nature, space for families and groupsAlways ask how it is heated in winter
HotelBolu city centre, Abant, KartalkayaReception, service, plenty of choiceA morning drive to the park, less of a nature feel

Tent campingOnly the designated area inside the park (caravan stays banned)You wake up by the lakesIn Bolu the average low is 6.2 °C in October and 2.1 °C in November

Temperatures are from the Turkish State Meteorological Service's (MGM) long-term statistics for Bolu (1929–2025); because Yedigöller lies in the forest, nights usually feel cooler. We look at choosing a type for families, couples, groups and winter trips in our hotel or bungalow guide.

    How many nights?

According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data quoted in a January 2024 report by the East Marmara Development Agency, accommodation in Bolu recorded 526,376 arrivals and 929,102 overnight stays in the first ten months of 2022; the report reads this as mostly two-night stays. The same logic applies to Yedigöller: with one night you can only explore the park comfortably if you get in early; two nights let you spend one day in the park and the other around Mengen or at Gölcük. For a sample schedule, see our Bolu Yedigöller weekend plan.

Where does Nesilce Tatil Köyü fit on this map?

Nesilce is a bungalow and hotel resort at Hacıahmetler, at the Mengen end of the Mengen–Yazıcık route:

    • Distances: About 48 km to Yedigöller National Park; ~3 hours (260 km) from Istanbul, ~2.5 hours (230 km) from Ankara and ~50 minutes (55 km) from Bolu city centre.
    • Winter: The winter route used when the Bolu–Yedigöller road is closed runs along the same line as the resort.
    • Units: 10 standard bungalows (2–3 guests), 8 duplex bungalows (4–6 guests) and 7 standard hotel rooms (2 guests).
    • Included: A Turkish village breakfast, free parking and free Wi-Fi; pets are welcome with prior notice.
    • Good to know: There is no pool and no jacuzzi. Check-in 14:00, check-out 12:00.

    Frequently asked questions

Is there accommodation inside Yedigöller National Park?

Yes, but capacity is small. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's 9th Regional Directorate, visitors can stay in bungalows owned by the General Directorate and also in tents in the designated area; sources put the number of bungalows at between 18 and 21. Caravan stays, however, are banned by a general order of the Bolu Governorate.

Where should I stay to visit Yedigöller in winter?

Because the Bolu–Yedigöller road can close from mid-November to March due to snow and ice, staying on the Mengen–Yazıcık side is the most practical option. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism also states that in winter the park can only be reached via the Yeniçağa–Mengen–Yazıcık road. Confirm road conditions on 0374 215 52 81 before setting off.

How long does it take to drive from Bolu city centre to Yedigöller?

The park is about 42–45 km north of Bolu. After the gravel section of the road was asphalted in 2015, the journey was reported to have dropped to 40–50 minutes. It is a narrow, steep forest road, so allow extra time for queues at the entrance on autumn weekends.

How do you reach Yedigöller from the Mengen side?

From Mengen you head towards Zonguldak and enter the park via the village of Yazıcık in Devrek district. Coming from Ankara, you can leave the motorway at Gerede or Yeniçağa and cross to Mengen to use this road. From Mengen town the park is about 50–55 km according to mapping services.

Are there guesthouses (pansiyon) near Yedigöller?

Inside the park there are bungalows and a tent area; traditional guesthouses are mostly found in Bolu city centre, in district towns and in villages. Guesthouses are usually simple, family-run places; ask in advance about facilities and whether breakfast is included.

Does it make sense to stay at Abant and visit Yedigöller?

It's possible but far: from around Lake Abant it is roughly 80 km to the park according to mapping services, a drive of more than 1.5 hours. It works if Abant is your main destination and Yedigöller a day trip; if you want to be at Yedigöller early in the morning, staying inside the park, on the Mengen side or in Bolu city centre is better.
