Bolu Yedigöller Bungalow Weekend: A 2-Night Plan

    23 May 2026· 9 min read·Nesilce Editor

Friday evening in a bungalow, Saturday morning on the lakeshore, Sunday afternoon on the road. A ready-made, hour-by-hour plan for a two-night Bolu Yedigöller weekend, with driving times.

    In brief

The most efficient pattern is two nights: arrive in Mengen on Friday afternoon, enter Yedigöller (about 48 km from the resort) at 09:30 on Saturday and leave at 15:00, then spend Sunday in Mengen, Gölcük or Abant depending on which way you are driving home. In bad weather, swap Saturday and Sunday; if there is snow, confirm the road on 0374 215 52 81 and shift the plan to Gölcük and the area around the resort.

How do you plan a 2-night Bolu Yedigöller weekend?

The most relaxed formula for a bungalow weekend near Yedigöller in Bolu is two nights: settle in on Friday evening, give Saturday entirely to Yedigöller, and plan Sunday around the direction you are driving home. On a one-night plan, Yedigöller gets squeezed between the tiredness of the journey and the rush to get back; two nights let you enter the park early in the morning and spend the evening resting.

The programme below was built hour by hour around Nesilce Tatil Köyü in Mengen as a base. The fixed points are: check-in at 14:00, check-out at 12:00; the resort is about 48 km from Yedigöller National Park (the "Seven Lakes") and sits on the Yeniçağa-Mengen-Yazıcık route used in winter. If you haven't chosen your dates yet, first read should you visit Yedigöller on a weekday or at the weekend; if you are coming with children, our guide to family bungalow holidays in Bolu completes this plan with advice on pace and safety.

    Your weekend route map

    LegApproximate distance / timeNote
    Istanbul → Nesilce (Mengen)260 km, ~3 hoursTEM motorway → Bolu → Mengen
    Ankara → Nesilce230 km, ~2.5 hoursIstanbul road → Gerede → Mengen
Nesilce → Yedigöller~48 km; allow 1-1.5 hoursWinding forest road, viewpoint stops
Nesilce → Mengen town centreA few minutesDinner, supermarket, pharmacy
Nesilce → Bolu centre55 km, ~50 minutesMuseum, bazaar
Nesilce → Gölcük Nature Park~1 hour 10 minutesVia Bolu centre
Nesilce → Lake Abant~1 hour 10 minutesOn the way back towards Istanbul

Times vary with traffic, weather and season. Navigation apps often show the Yedigöller leg as more than an hour; allowing 1.5 hours for it, including photo and viewpoint stops, makes the day more relaxed.

Friday: arrival and a slow start

    TimeProgramme
    10:30Leave Istanbul (Ankara: 11:00)
12:30-13:15Lunch stop on the way: before Bolu if coming from Istanbul, in Gerede if coming from Ankara
    14:00Check in
14:30-16:30Settle in, a short walk around the resort, pack Saturday's bag
17:00-19:30A quick trip into Mengen town: picnic supplies and water, dinner
21:30Early night; set the alarm for 07:00 on Saturday

If you are setting off after work, bear two things in mind: big-city exits are usually busy on Friday evenings, and you will reach Mengen at night. If you will be arriving late, let the resort know your arrival time in advance. If you would like an early breakfast, mention that when you check in too; the whole advantage of the Saturday plan is an early start.

09:30-12:30Lakes walk: start at Büyükgöl, then Seringöl, Deringöl and Nazlıgöl; if time allows, Küçükgöl, İncegöl and SazlıgölSoft light, empty shores

The reliable source for the order and character of the lakes is the Yedigöller page of Kültür Portalı, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's culture portal: from north to south the seven lakes are Büyükgöl, Seringöl, Deringöl, Nazlıgöl, Küçükgöl, İncegöl and Sazlıgöl, and Nazlıgöl is also called "Şelale Gölü" (Waterfall Lake) because its water emerges as a waterfall. The same page mentions the Kapankaya Manzara Seyir Yeri, a viewpoint looking down on the lakes. Ask at the entrance about the state of the path on the day.

What to know at the entrance: according to DKMP's 9th Regional Directorate, the national parks authority, the vehicle entry fee at Yedigöller has been collected by HGS (Turkey's electronic toll tag), without stopping, since December 2023. Under DKMP's 2026 tariff, a car costs 225 TL and covers everyone in it. Check your HGS balance before you set off.

How to break up the lakes walk

According to Kültür Portalı, the lakes lie on two separate plateaus with a height difference of about 100 metres. That means gentle ups and downs along the way; remember that you will be walking uphill on the way back.

    1. Büyükgöl and Deringöl: Büyükgöl is the largest lake, and it is linked to Deringöl by a flowing section about 20 metres long. In the first hour of the morning this is the best place for reflections.
    2. Seringöl and Nazlıgöl: The Nazlıgöl waterfall is one of the most photographed spots in the park; try to get there before 11:00 to stay ahead of the weekend lunchtime crowd.
    3. Küçükgöl, İncegöl, Sazlıgöl: The small lakes to the south are usually quieter. If time is short, leave this section for after lunch, or skip it.

Don't rush between the lakes: you don't have to see all seven. Seeing three at a calm pace makes for a better day than racing round all of them.

    Adjusting Saturday to the season

    SeasonWhat changes?
October - mid-NovemberFollow the programme as it is; don't stretch the 15:00 departure
Summer (June-August)Long days; you can stay in the park until 17:00 and take your break in the shade during the midday heat
SpringPaths can be muddy; waterproof shoes are a must
Winter (December-March)The plan depends on the road; see the snow plan below

If you only have one night

If two nights are not possible, this is the most efficient version of a "2 days, 1 night" plan: arrive in Mengen on Friday night, follow the Saturday programme as it is until you leave the park at 15:00, and drive home straight from Yedigöller. Because check-out is at 12:00, check out on Saturday morning before heading to the park and load your luggage into the car. If you are returning to Istanbul, go via Bolu; if you are returning to Ankara, go via Mengen and Gerede. The Sunday programme (Gölcük, Abant or Mengen) does not fit into this plan, so add the second night if you can.

Sunday: three options, depending on which way you're heading home

Check-out is at 12:00. Choosing your Sunday according to the direction you are driving also decides what time you get home.

OptionWho it suitsHow it worksHeading home
    A) Mengen and the resortThose returning to Ankara, anyone wanting a slow pace08:30 breakfast; 09:30-11:30 nature walk, horse riding or ATV (activities offered by the resort; ask about availability in advance); 12:00 check-out; lunch in MengenLeave at 14:00, in Ankara around 16:30
    B) GölcükThose returning to Istanbul, anyone wanting a short, easy walkLeave at 10:45; reach Gölcük around 12:00; walk the roughly 1.3 km lakeside loop; lunch in BoluHead for Istanbul around 15:00
    C) AbantThose returning to Istanbul, keen walkersLeave at 10:45; reach Abant around 12:00; walk the roughly 7 km lakeside loop, or part of itHead for Istanbul at 15:30-16:00

In DKMP's 2026 tariff, Gölcük and Abant are in the same category as Yedigöller; a car costs 225 TL at all three. For details, see our Gölcük Nature Park guide and Lake Abant guide.

Traffic builds up on Sunday evenings heading back to Istanbul. If you choose Gölcük or Abant, being on the motorway before 16:00 will make a noticeable difference to the time you get home.

If the weather turns: a plan B for rain and snow

    A rainy weekend

    • In light rain Yedigöller is still worth visiting. With a waterproof jacket and waterproof shoes, shorten the walk; wet leaves and roots make the paths slippery.
    • If heavy rain is forecast, swap Saturday and Sunday. Check the forecast again on Friday evening.
    • Indoors: the Bolu Museum in Bolu centre, with its archaeology and ethnography halls, suits a rainy afternoon. According to the Ministry's museum leaflet it is open Tuesday to Sunday from 08:30 to 17:30 and closed on Mondays; check the current hours on muze.gov.tr before you go.
    • At the resort: the wide terrace of the duplex bungalows is a good spot for watching the rain. Pack a book and a board game.

    A snowy weekend

    • From mid-November the Bolu-Yedigöller road can close because of snow and ice. The winter route is Yeniçağa-Mengen-Yazıcık; Kültür Portalı also lists the Devrek-Yazıcık road as an alternative.
    • On Friday evening and Saturday morning, call the Bolu branch of the National Parks directorate (0374 215 52 81). You can check closed roads on the national highways network with the Closed Roads Query (Trafiğe Kapalı Yol Sorgulama) on e-Devlet, the government services portal.
    • If the park road is closed, spend Saturday on a snow walk around the resort and the afternoon at Gölcük; the Sunday plan stays the same.
    • Don't set off without winter tyres and snow chains. For the full route and a driving checklist, see our guide to reaching Yedigöller in winter.

Which room type suits this plan?

    • Couples: a standard hotel room for 2, or a standard bungalow for 2-3.
    • Families or groups of friends of 4-6: a duplex bungalow with one double and two single beds, a living room and a wide terrace.
    • Large groups: get in touch with a group enquiry for a combination of bungalows and hotel rooms.

    Frequently asked questions

Should I stay 1 night or 2 for a Bolu Yedigöller weekend?

Two, if you can. With one night you have to check out on Saturday morning, go to the park and drive home the same day; a second night lets you rest after Yedigöller and keep Sunday for Gölcük, Abant or Mengen.

How many hours should I spend at Yedigöller on Saturday?

About 5 to 5.5 hours is enough: entering at 09:30 and leaving at 15:00 leaves time for the lakes walk, a lunch break and the Kapankaya viewpoint. In summer the days are long, so you can stay until 17:00.

Where can I stop on Sunday on the way back to Istanbul?

Gölcük Nature Park and Lake Abant are both about 1 hour 10 minutes from Nesilce and on the way back towards Istanbul. For a short, easy walk, choose Gölcük's roughly 1.3 km lakeside loop; for a longer one, the roughly 7 km circuit of Lake Abant.

What should I do about lunch at Yedigöller?

The most practical solution is a picnic bag made up with supplies bought in Mengen on Friday evening. Food and drink options inside the park can vary with the season; fires and barbecues are only allowed in permitted places and periods.

If it snows at the weekend, is the plan off?

Not necessarily. The Bolu-Yedigöller road can close, but the winter route runs via Yeniçağa-Mengen-Yazıcık. On Friday evening and Saturday morning, call the Bolu branch of the National Parks directorate (0374 215 52 81); if the road is closed, spend Saturday on a snow walk around the resort and at Gölcük.

What should I do if I arrive late on Friday night?

Standard check-in is at 14:00. If you are setting off after work and will arrive at night, let us know your arrival time in advance by phone or WhatsApp, and mention any early-breakfast request at the same time.
