Booking a Bungalow in Bolu: Airbnb, Hotels.com or Direct?
You can often book the same bungalow through three different channels, but the payment, cancellation and support rules change with each. This guide compares them using the platforms' official pages.
Bungalows in Bolu can be booked on Airbnb, on Hotels.com or directly with the property by phone or WhatsApp. On Airbnb, payment goes through the platform and cancellation follows the standard policy chosen by the host; on Hotels.com, cancellation is set by the property's rules; when booking direct, you agree the terms with the property in writing. Whichever channel you use, confirm the location, what breakfast covers, the pet policy and the cancellation terms in advance, and compare prices and availability across channels.
How do you book a bungalow in Bolu?
Bungalows in Bolu are usually booked in one of three ways: through a platform such as Airbnb or Hotels.com, or by contacting the property directly by phone or WhatsApp. You can often reserve the very same bungalow through all three. What changes from channel to channel is when and to whom you pay, the cancellation rules, how reviews work and who you turn to if something goes wrong.
This guide is based on the platforms' official help pages and terms of service, checked on 17 October 2026. Platform rules do change from time to time, so the terms shown on your booking screen always take precedence over this article.
The three channels at a glance
| Topic | Airbnb | Hotels.com | Direct (phone / WhatsApp) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment | Made through Airbnb; paying off-platform means losing its protection | With "Pay now", charged at booking; with "Pay later", usually charged by the property on your stay date | By the method and on the schedule the property specifies |
| Service fee | Depending on the fee structure, shown to the guest as a separate line or deducted entirely from the host | Prices are shown including applicable taxes and fees; an administrative fee may apply to changes or cancellations | No intermediary; you ask the property what the total covers |
| Cancellation | The standard policy chosen by the host (Flexible, Moderate, Limited, Firm, etc.) | The property's "Rules and Restrictions" | Terms agreed with the property in writing |
| Reviews | Written within 14 days of checkout; published once both sides have reviewed | From guests who booked; within 6 months of the stay | No platform reviews; look at independent reviews |
| Support | The host first, then Airbnb; 24-hour safety line | Chat and phone, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year | You deal with the property directly |
| Large groups | Limited by the listing's capacity | No more than 8 rooms at the same property for the same dates | Room allocation planned together with the property |
Keep one point in mind when reading the table: no channel is automatically the "cheapest" or the "safest". The difference lies in who sets the rules and who you turn to if there is a problem.
How does booking a bungalow on Airbnb work?
Searching for bungalows in Bolu on Airbnb brings up both standalone mountain houses and listings from bungalow resorts. The payment, cancellation and review rules are largely the same for both.
Payment and service fees
Airbnb charges a service fee once a booking is confirmed. According to Airbnb's service fees page, there are two structures:
- Split fee: the fee is shared between host and guest. The guest's share ranges from 14.1% to 16.5% of the booking subtotal and appears in the price breakdown before you pay. Airbnb says this structure is being phased out.
- Single fee: the entire fee is deducted from the host's payout; most hosts pay 15.5%. This structure is mandatory for most hosts, including traditional hospitality businesses.
In practice, this means you may not see a separate "service fee" line in the breakdown, but the fee may still be built into the price. Since 21 April 2025, Airbnb has shown the total price including fees but before taxes by default worldwide. When comparing, go by the total on the checkout screen rather than the nightly rate.
Always pay through Airbnb. Airbnb states clearly that if you pay outside the platform you lose AirCover protection, and that a booking where you are asked to pay by wire or bank transfer may be fraudulent.
Cancellation policies
Every listing comes with a cancellation policy chosen by the host. The standard options on Airbnb's cancellation policies page, for stays shorter than 28 nights, are as follows:
| Policy | Last moment for a full refund | Cancelling after that point |
|---|---|---|
| Flexible | Up to 24 hours before check-in | The host is paid for nights stayed plus one more night |
| Moderate | Up to 5 days before check-in | The host is paid one night plus 50% of the unused nights |
| Limited | Up to 14 days before check-in | 50% refund between 7 and 14 days out; under 7 days, the accommodation cost is not refunded |
| Firm | Up to 30 days before check-in | 50% refund between 7 and 30 days out; under 7 days, the accommodation cost is not refunded |
All standard policies include an extra safeguard: if the booking was confirmed at least 7 days before check-in, you can cancel for a full refund within 24 hours of confirmation. Some hosts may also offer a discounted, non-refundable rate. Stricter policies (Strict and "Super strict") are only available to hosts invited by Airbnb.
AirCover, support and reviews
AirCover is protection that comes with bookings made through Airbnb at no extra cost. If the host cancels before check-in, if you cannot reach the host, or if the place is significantly different from the listing, Airbnb helps you find a similar place or gives a full or partial refund. If a problem arises during your stay, you need to document it with photos or video and notify the host within 72 hours of discovering it, then contact Airbnb if it is not resolved. There is also a 24-hour safety line for situations where you feel unsafe. AirCover is not an insurance policy.
In the review system, guest and host are both invited to write a review on the day of checkout and have 14 days to do so. Reviews are published once both have written them or the time runs out, so neither side sees the other's review before writing their own.
Specific to Türkiye: the licence number
Law No. 7464 came into force in Türkiye on 1 January 2024. According to Airbnb's page on the rules in Türkiye, homes let for up to 100 days require a "Turizm Amaçlı Kiralanan Konut İzin Belgesi" (a tourism rental permit for residences) from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Tourism facilities such as hotels must instead add their Turizm İşletmesi Belgesi (tourism operation licence) or Basit Konaklama Turizm İşletmesi Belgesi (simple accommodation licence) number to their listings. Since 1 April 2026, hosts have had to enter the licence number, the licence holder's name and the listing address for every listing.
If you are renting a mountain house or a standalone bungalow, look for licence or registration number details on the listing page; if you cannot find them, ask the host. It is a simple but useful check.
How does booking a bungalow on Hotels.com work?
Hotels.com is an Expedia Group company. Hotels.com's Terms of Service, last revised on 27 May 2026, set out the following framework for payment and cancellation.
Pay now or pay later?
- Pay now: the booking amount is charged to your payment method at the time of booking.
- Pay later: the property usually charges you on your stay date, in the local currency or as stated during booking.
- Room prices are shown including applicable taxes and fees under both options; taxes and fees may vary depending on the payment option you choose.
- Some properties may ask for a card or cash deposit at check-in to cover extras during your stay. This is separate from your booking payment.
Cancellations and changes
On Hotels.com, your right to cancel is determined by the property's "Rules and Restrictions", which are shown to you before you book. Some properties do not allow cancellations or changes at all. With a Pay later booking, if you do not turn up or do not cancel in time, the property may charge the no-show or cancellation fee set out in its rules.
Hotels.com may also charge an administrative fee for changes and cancellations the property allows; if so, you are told before you go ahead. Refunds are made to your original payment method by whichever party received your payment.
An important limit for groups: you cannot book more than 8 rooms at the same property for the same dates through Hotels.com. Larger groups need a separate group process.
Reviews and support
According to the Hotels.com Content Guidelines, the company takes reasonable steps to ensure that only people who booked a travel service can submit reviews. Reviews must be submitted within six months of the stay. All reviews that follow the rules, positive and negative, are published, and reviews that are unverified or written in return for an incentive are labelled. Hotels.com also states that it does not edit reviews on behalf of guests or partners.
Customer service is available by chat or phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hotels.com also stresses that it never asks for a bank transfer, your password or a one-time passcode.
How does booking directly by phone or WhatsApp work?
With a direct booking there is no intermediary: you discuss the dates, room type and price with the property itself. Its biggest advantage is being able to ask questions. You can clarify the current price, which bungalow suits you, whether you can bring a pet, how to split a group across rooms or any special request before you book.
In exchange, there is no platform protection such as AirCover and no platform customer service. Your main safeguard is therefore written confirmation:
- Take the phone number from the property's official website; do not rely on numbers that reach you by message or through adverts.
- Ask for the dates, room type, number of guests, breakfast, any pet note and the total amount in writing, by WhatsApp or email.
- If an advance payment is requested, find out in writing beforehand who it goes to, by what method, and what happens if you cancel or change the booking.
- Keep the messages until your stay is over.
Does the 14-day right of withdrawal apply to accommodation?
In most cases, no. Under Turkish consumer rules, contracts made at a distance, for example online or by phone, generally give the consumer a 14-day right of withdrawal. However, under Article 15 of the Distance Contracts Regulation (Mesafeli Sözleşmeler Yönetmeliği), this right cannot be used for accommodation contracts that must be performed on a specific date or within a specific period, unless the parties agree otherwise.
So whichever channel you choose, it is the cancellation terms of the booking that count. This is general information, not legal advice, but it is reason enough never to pay without reading the cancellation terms.
Hotels.com, Airbnb or direct: which should you choose?
There is no single right answer; it depends on your priorities:
- If you want to manage your bookings in one account and have platform support behind you, Airbnb or Hotels.com make sense. On Airbnb, cancellations follow standard policies; on Hotels.com, they follow the property's rules.
- If a specific room type, a pet, a large group or a special request is involved, talking to the property first makes things easier. After that conversation, you can still book through a platform.
- If flexible cancellation is critical for you, look at the policy rather than the channel. Even for the same bungalow, a flexible rate and a non-refundable rate can be worlds apart.
Remember that the same property's prices and availability can differ by channel. Dates that look fully booked on one channel may be open on another. Before deciding, compare the channels side by side on total price and cancellation terms.
What to check before renting a bungalow
Whatever the channel, run through these checks before booking a bungalow in Bolu:
| Check | Why it matters | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Exact location and distance to Yedigöller | "Near Yedigöller" can be used for quite different areas | What is the exact address, and how many km is it by road to the park? |
| What "breakfast included" covers | It may not cover every guest, children or every morning | For how many people, at what time, and what is served? |
| Pet policy | Some places refuse pets, some charge a fee or require advance notice | Are pets accepted, and what are the fee and rules? |
| Winter road conditions | Snow and ice can change the route | Which road do you take to reach the property in winter? |
| Heating | The key comfort factor from October onwards | What type of heating is it, and does it heat the whole unit, bathroom included? |
| Check-in and check-out times | Your late arrival and return plans depend on them | What are the times, and what should you do if you arrive late? |
| Capacity and bed layout | Too many people in a small unit shows on the first night | How many beds are there, and is an extra guest possible? |
| Cancellation and payment terms | The 14-day right of withdrawal usually does not apply to accommodation | Until when can you cancel free of charge? |
Location: how close is "near Yedigöller"?
According to Anadolu Agency, Yedigöller National Park (the "Seven Lakes") lies about 45 km from Bolu city centre. Because "near Yedigöller" can appear in listings for Bolu centre, Mengen or elsewhere, check the location on the map and the actual road distance yourself. On Airbnb, the exact street address is not shared until the booking is confirmed, and the map may only show an approximate area. If in doubt, send a message and ask.
Winter: is the road open?
The Bolu–Yedigöller road can be closed because of snow and ice. On 22 November 2024, for example, it was closed to traffic after a snow warning, and it was announced that access to Yedigöller would be via Mengen. In the winter months, check the closed-roads lookup by the General Directorate of Highways on e-Devlet, Türkiye's e-Government portal, before setting off. For the park road, you can call the Bolu branch of the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (0374 215 52 81). You will find the details of the winter route in our guide to reaching Yedigöller in winter.
Pets
On Airbnb, hosts can set a pet fee; it is shown in the nightly rate and in the total at checkout, while assistance animals always stay free. On Hotels.com, the property's rules may appear in sections of the property page such as "Fees and Policies". For a direct booking, always tell the property about your pet in advance. For more detail, see our guide to a pet-friendly bungalow holiday in Bolu.
How do you book Nesilce Tatil Köyü?
Nesilce Tatil Köyü is a bungalow and hotel resort in Hacıahmetler, Mengen (Bolu), about 48 km from Yedigöller National Park. You can book through three channels:
| Channel | How? | When is it useful? |
|---|---|---|
| Phone / WhatsApp | +90 507 922 11 18; for WhatsApp, use the button on the contact page | To ask about current prices, room choice, pets and special requests |
| Airbnb | Nesilce Tatil Köyü on Airbnb | To book with your Airbnb account under Airbnb's payment and cancellation rules |
| Hotels.com | Nesilce Tatil Köyü on Hotels.com | To book with your Hotels.com account under the property's rules there |
Whichever channel you choose, these facts stay the same:
- Room types: 10 standard bungalows (2–3 guests), 8 duplex bungalows (4–6 guests) and 7 standard hotel rooms (2 guests). Details are on the bungalow accommodation in Bolu page.
- Breakfast: a Turkish village breakfast is included for all guests.
- Check-in and check-out: check-in 14:00, check-out 12:00.
- Pets: accepted, with advance notice required.
- Free of charge: parking and Wi-Fi.
- Not available: there is no pool and no jacuzzi at the resort.
- Winter road: the Yeniçağa–Mengen–Yazıcık winter route, used when the Bolu–Yedigöller road is closed, runs along the line where the resort is located.
- Groups: the resort can host groups of 60+ people; for a quote, see the group and events page or call the group line on +90 538 690 37 51.
A frank note on prices and availability
We make no general claim about which channel works out better. Prices and availability can vary by date, room type and channel. The soundest approach is to look at the total price and cancellation terms on Airbnb and Hotels.com for the same dates and, if you like, to phone and ask about current prices and room options as well, then compare. If you book through a platform, payment and cancellation are subject to that platform's rules and the terms on the listing, so read them on the booking screen.
Booking step by step
- Decide on your dates, the number of guests and the room type that suits you.
- Check availability and the total price for the same dates on Airbnb and Hotels.com; you can also phone and ask.
- Read the cancellation terms and what is included in the price on each channel separately.
- Pass on any pet, late arrival or special request before you book: by message on a platform, or by phone for a direct booking.
- Get your confirmation in writing, and in the winter months check the road conditions before setting off.

Frequently asked questions
How do you book a bungalow in Bolu?
There are three ways: through a platform such as Airbnb or Hotels.com, or by contacting the property directly by phone or WhatsApp. On the platforms, payment and cancellation depend on the platform's and the listing's rules; with a direct booking, the terms you agree with the property in writing apply. Whichever channel you choose, compare the total price and the cancellation terms.
How much is the Airbnb service fee?
According to Airbnb's help page, under the split-fee structure, which is being phased out, guests pay a service fee of 14.1% to 16.5% of the booking subtotal. Under the single-fee structure, mandatory for most hosts, the entire fee is deducted from the host's payout. You can see which structure applies in the price breakdown at checkout.
Is Hotels.com or Airbnb safer?
Both have their own support systems and rules. On Airbnb, AirCover protection applies when you pay through the platform; on Hotels.com, customer service is available 24/7 and your right to cancel depends on the property's rules. Both platforms warn against messages asking you to pay by bank transfer, so never move payment off the platform.
Is there a 14-day right of withdrawal for online bungalow bookings in Türkiye?
Usually not. Under Article 15 of Türkiye's Distance Contracts Regulation, the right of withdrawal cannot be used for accommodation contracts to be performed on a specific date or within a specific period, unless the parties agree otherwise. That is why the cancellation terms of the booking are what count.
What should you check before renting a bungalow?
The exact location and actual road distance, who and what breakfast covers, the pet rules, winter road conditions, the type of heating, check-in and check-out times, capacity and the cancellation terms. Confirming these in writing before you book is the soundest approach.
Where can I book Nesilce Tatil Köyü?
You can book directly by phone or WhatsApp on +90 507 922 11 18, or through the resort's official listings on Airbnb and Hotels.com. As prices and availability may differ by channel, we recommend comparing them; when you contact the resort directly, you can ask about current prices, room options and any special requests.
