Yedigöller on a Weekday or Weekend? 2026 Crowd Guide

    9 June 2026· 10 min read·Nesilce Editor

Crowds at Yedigöller are no accident; they follow the calendar, the clock and the season. Use official figures and the 2026-2027 school holidays to pick your day.

    In brief

If you are flexible, visit Yedigöller on a weekday, ideally Monday to Thursday, and before 10:00; the difference is greatest in autumn. In 2026 the busiest windows are 28 October to 1 November (Republic Day) and 14-22 November (the school break). If the weekend is your only option, staying in the area the night before and entering the park before 09:30 gets you ahead of most of the crowd.

Should you visit Yedigöller on a weekday or at the weekend?

The short answer: on a weekday, if you have the choice. Crowds at Yedigöller National Park (the "Seven Lakes") are not spread evenly through the year; they peak on autumn weekends and during school holidays, and drop sharply on weekday mornings. If the weekend is your only option, remember that the time of day matters as much as the day itself. Get into the park before 10:00 and you will miss most of the busiest stretch.

This guide answers "which day?" with three sets of data: official visitor figures from different years, the 2026-2027 school and public holiday calendar, and how the crowd builds and fades over a single day. At the end you will find ready-made patterns for a midweek escape from Istanbul and Ankara.

Yedigöller crowds in numbers: when, and how many?

There is no annual statistic for Yedigöller published on a regular basis. Even so, the figures that officials from the Nature Conservation and National Parks directorate (DKMP) have given to the press over the years show clearly how visitors are spread across the calendar:

    PeriodVisitors to YedigöllerSource
    2021, January-September (9 months)Around 94,000; around 200,000 expected by year endAA, 10 October 2021
    Summer 2023 (June-August)71,807AA, 6 September 2023
    2024 mid-year school break1,530 (Abant 98,339 over the same period)DKMP data via TRT Haber, 6 February 2024
    2025 Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı) holiday8,758 (Abant 27,349, Gölcük 13,109)AA, 11 June 2025
November 2025, school-break weekendTent and caravan areas completely full, long queues of cars at the entrancesHalk TV, 9 November 2025

Three clear conclusions follow from this table:

    1. The last quarter of the year can outweigh the first nine months. In 2021 the head of Bolu's DKMP branch reported 94,000 visitors in the first nine months and said she expected the total to reach 200,000 by the end of the year. In other words, more than half of the expected visitors were squeezed into October-December, and in practice into the few weeks of autumn colour.
    2. Summer crowds are spread out. In summer 2023, 71,807 people came over three months, which works out at an average of around 780 a day. Summer weekends are busy, but nothing like the autumn peak.
    3. In winter and during the Bayram holidays, Yedigöller is Bolu's quiet lake. During the 2024 mid-year school break more than 98,000 people went to Abant, while 1,530 went to Yedigöller. Over the 2025 Kurban Bayramı holiday, too, Yedigöller trailed well behind Abant and Gölcük.

In short, the weekday-or-weekend question matters most in October and November. In summer the difference is moderate, and in winter what decides your day is the state of the road, not the day of the week.

Which dates will be busiest in 2026-2027?

Public and school holidays multiply the weekend effect. In autumn it is not only your own holiday you are competing with: day tours from Istanbul also schedule special departures for 29 October and the November school break. Based on the Ministry of National Education's (MEB) 2026-2027 school calendar and the public holidays, these are the dates to watch over the coming months:

    DatesWhat's happeningExpected effect on Yedigöller
24-25 October 2026 (Saturday-Sunday)One of the strongest weekends of peak autumn colourHigh
28 October (afternoon) - 1 November 202629 October (Republic Day) falls on a Thursday; a four-day break for anyone who takes Friday offVery high
7-8 November 2026The last full weekend of peak colourHigh
14-22 November 2026The first-term school break (16-20 November) joins two weekendsVery high; road risk also begins from mid-November
1-3 January 2027New Year (1 January is a Friday)Low to moderate; depends on snow and road conditions
    23 January - 7 February 2027Mid-year school break (25 January - 5 February)Low; winter road conditions decide
6-14 March 2027Second-term school break (8-12 March) and Eid al-Fitr (Ramazan Bayramı, 9-11 March) in the same weekModerate; early spring, changeable weather

The most important detail for 2026 is this: the November school break falls at the very end of the colour peak. Colour in the area usually peaks between mid-October and 15 November, so the week of 14-22 November combines holiday crowds with fast-falling leaves and the period when the Bolu-side road can close because of ice. If you have children and must use the school break, at least choose the weekdays of 16-19 November rather than the two weekends. For a week-by-week view of the colours, see our Yedigöller autumn foliage calendar.

How do the crowds change through the day?

If you are going at the weekend, picking the right hour matters as much as picking the right day. In sample itineraries for day tours from Istanbul, coaches leave between 06:00 and 08:00; allowing for the drive, these groups reach the park towards midday. Day-trippers from Bolu and Ankara gather at similar times.

    TimeWeekdayAutumn weekend
07:30-09:30Almost empty; mist and still waterCalm; parking is easy to find
    09:30-11:00A few visitorsFilling up fast
11:00-15:00Moderate; tour groups may arriveBusiest stretch: car parks, the main lakeshore, queues for the toilets
    15:00-sunsetVery quietGradually emptying

Sunset sets your time to leave. Calculated for the park's coordinates, sunset is at about 18:11 on 17 October, 17:52 on 31 October and 17:36 on 15 November. Because the lakes lie in a forested valley, the sun leaves the valley floor well before that. This is why "I'll go in the afternoon once it empties" does not work in November: arrive late and you get a quiet visit, but a very short one.

Where do the queues form, at the gate or in the car park?

According to an announcement by DKMP's 9th Regional Directorate, vehicle entry fees at Yedigöller have been collected by HGS (Turkey's electronic toll tag), without stopping, since 25 December 2023. Vehicles without an HGS tag, or with too little credit, are logged as a violation; according to the directorate's information note, you can pay the fee without a late charge within 30 days of entry through the "milli park ihlal sorgulaması" (national park violation query) on PTT's HGS customer site. In DKMP's 2026 tariff Yedigöller is a first-category site: a car costs 225 TL (everyone in it included) and a pedestrian ticket 75 TL per person.

So waiting at the gate is no longer the main issue. On autumn weekends the real bottleneck is the car parks and the narrow forest road. On-the-ground news reports have described this for years: in October 2020 cars were parked along the roadside once the car parks filled, and in November 2025, on a school-break weekend, long queues of cars formed at the entrances.

About booked entry: in December 2025, DKMP's 9th Regional Directorate announced that timed, booked entry would be introduced at Yedigöller, Abant and Gölcük from 2026. We could not confirm from an official source whether the system is now in use or where to apply. Especially before holidays, call the Bolu branch of the National Parks directorate (0374 215 52 81) and ask about the current arrangements.

How the weekday-weekend difference changes by season

What does a weekday visit gain you, and what does it cost?

A weekday is not a cure-all; decide knowing what you gain and what you give up.

    What you gain:

    • Space at the most photographed spots. On weekend lunchtimes, places such as the shore of Büyükgöl, the Nazlıgöl waterfall and the Dilek Çeşmesi (Wishing Fountain) turn into places where you queue; on a weekday morning you have them almost to yourself.
    • An empty frame. Mist, still water and an empty shore only come together in the early hours. For light and composition, take a look at our Yedigöller photography route.
    • Time on the road. Weekend lunchtime traffic slows the drive along the narrow forest road; on a weekday the same road is far more relaxed.
    • Flexibility with your stay. Autumn weekends fill early; weekday dates are more flexible for both room type and number of nights.
    • An easier day with children. Keeping an eye on a small child on a crowded shore is tiring. For a family-paced plan, see our guide to family bungalow holidays in Bolu.

    What it costs you:

    • A day off work. Most plans need at least one day of leave.
    • Services may be more limited. Out of season and on weekdays, opening hours of businesses inside the park may be shorter; bring your own water and food.
    • Solitude on the trails. Peace and quiet is lovely, but on an off-season Tuesday you will meet very few people on the paths. Tell someone your walking plan and download the route for offline use.
    • The weather stays the same. A weekday does not bring better light. Rather than insisting on a Tuesday with rain in the forecast, an early start on a sunny Saturday may serve you better.

How to plan a midweek escape from Istanbul or Ankara

Nesilce Tatil Köyü is about 3 hours (260 km) from Istanbul and about 2.5 hours (230 km) from Ankara, and about 48 km from Yedigöller. Check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00. Working around those times, here are three practical patterns:

    PlanWho it suitsHow it works
Sunday evening - Tuesday (2 nights)Istanbul residents who can take Monday offSet off on Sunday afternoon; enter the park early on Monday; head home around midday on Tuesday
Tuesday - Thursday (2 nights)People who can work remotelySettle in at 14:00 on Tuesday and work in the afternoon; keep Wednesday morning for the park; return on Thursday
Wednesday - Thursday (1 night)A short break from AnkaraLeave at lunchtime on Wednesday, evening at the resort; check out on Thursday morning, head to the park at 08:00 and drive home from there

    A few practical notes:

    • The Sunday-evening advantage: on Sunday evenings traffic mostly builds up heading back into the big cities; you will be driving the other way.
    • Remote working: free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and common areas. If you need a particular speed, for video calls for example, ask when you book.
    • An alternative to 29 October: if you want to avoid the Republic Day crowds, try the weekdays between 26 October and the morning of 28 October. The colours are in the same window, while the roads and lakeshores have not yet filled with holiday traffic.

If the weekend is your only option: 6 tactics

    1. Stay in the area the night before. Spend Friday night in Mengen and you will be in the park before 09:30 on Saturday. For a ready-made, hour-by-hour programme, see our 2-night Bolu Yedigöller weekend plan.
    2. Avoid weekends attached to a holiday. An ordinary October weekend is noticeably calmer than the 29 October or school-break weekends.
    3. Don't linger at the main lake. Most of the crowd gathers on the shore of the first lake and thins out as you walk on towards the others.
    4. Bring your own food. Rather than queuing for food, drinks and toilets at lunchtime, take your break on the trail.
    5. Leave the park around 15:00. You will avoid both the early dusk in the valley and the mass departure of day-trippers.
    6. Check your HGS balance beforehand. You will drive through the gate without stopping and won't have to chase up a payment afterwards.

In winter these tactics give way to a single rule: before setting off, confirm the road conditions with the Bolu branch of the National Parks directorate. From mid-November the Bolu-Yedigöller road can close; the route used during this period is Yeniçağa-Mengen-Yazıcık, and the resort sits on this route.

    Frequently asked questions

Which are the busiest days at Yedigöller?

Saturdays and Sundays in autumn, especially between mid-October and mid-November, and weekends attached to a public or school holiday. In 2026 the busiest periods are expected to be from the afternoon of 28 October to 1 November, and the week of 14-22 November, which covers the school break.

Is it worth visiting Yedigöller on a Monday in autumn?

Yes; as the day after the weekend crowds, it is one of the quietest days of the autumn. Just bear in mind that some museums, such as the Bolu Museum, are closed on Mondays and that businesses inside the park may keep shorter hours on weekdays; bring your own water and food.

If I go at the weekend, what time should I enter the park?

Between 09:30 and 10:00 at the latest. Day-tour coaches from Istanbul leave between 06:00 and 08:00 and reach the park towards midday; from 11:00 to 15:00 the car parks and the main lakeshore are at their busiest.

Is Yedigöller crowded during the November school break?

Yes. In November 2025, when the school break coincided with a weekend, the camping areas filled completely and long queues of cars formed at the entrances. In 2026 the school break runs from 16 to 20 November; with the weekends it covers 14-22 November and coincides with the end of the colour peak and the start of the period of road risk.

Do I need an HGS tag to enter Yedigöller?

Since 25 December 2023 the vehicle entry fee has been collected by HGS, without stopping. If you have no tag or not enough credit, you can pay the fee without a late charge within 30 days of entry using the national park violation query on PTT's HGS customer site. In 2026 a car costs 225 TL.

Is it easier to find accommodation on weekdays?

Usually, yes. Autumn weekends and Bayram holidays are the dates that fill fastest in the area; weekday dates are more flexible for both room type and number of nights. Even so, for October and November it is best to check current availability by phone.
